About the Chef
Norma Jean has been catering Cape Cod events for more than 14 years and has been teaching her Mediterranean cooking seminars for the past four years. Her classes (formerly taught at the Captain Freeman Inn) were chosen to be included in the 2009 “Gourmet Getaways; 50 Top Spots to Cook and Learn” guide, the only culinary get-away from Cape Cod to be included in the guide!
“I believe that cooking should be a fun, creative experience – not a chore”, says Norma Jean. “I just love watching our students having fun meeting new people, creating in the kitchen, enjoying good food and discovering tasty, comfortably priced regional wines. This is comfort food at its best and I try to let the classes feel relaxed – a bit like that “Big Chill” type fantasy of making a fabulous no-stress dinner together in a great kitchen with your (new) friends…and sneak in plenty of helpful tips and techniques while we’re at it.”About the Classes
Ms. Anderson’s classes were featured in a 2008 Boston Globe article in a series featuring fun winter get-aways. Globe travel writer Ellen Albanese chose “Spending an afternoon learning to cook treats from Tuscany…” as her favorite part of the weekend, writing in detail about the class: “The tomato, basil, and garlic spread could have used more sea salt. But the olive pesto was perfect, especially atop the crisp squares of polenta we had made ourselves. It was just past 6 on a Saturday evening, and (Mediterranean cooking) school students…were enjoying the fruits of their labors, along with some carefully chosen wines from Tuscany. The aroma of grilling porterhouse steaks seasoned with rosemary, sage, and oregano filled the parlor.”
